The first residence took place in Zakynthos (Greece), involving artists from Italy, Greece, Soain, Romania. Zakynthos is a beautiful island in the Ionian Sea, it is a main tourist destination, well-known for its beautiful coastline and verdant landscapes, called by the Venetians ‘The Flower of Levant’.
In the island there is a peculiar type of theatre, called Omilias, that began in the 17th century. It was influenced from Cretan theatre as well as Commedia dell’Arte, as Zakynthos was a crossroad between the East and the West.
It is a theatre for the people, which is linked with Carnival celebrations for more than 400 years and deals with everyday life and social issues.
It is still alive and flourishes every year in Carnival time.
